Acid reflux is a condition that creates discomfort to the person and may even lead to other health complications if not addressed immediately. When getting solutions to this disorder, it is also important to focus on the food you eat. Acid reflux information contains a list of foods to avoid.

Although there are no particular types of food that can cause acid reflux, it is better if you will avoid those that can aggravate its symptoms. As of the moment, there are no conclusive evidences showing that acidic food is dangerous to acid reflux patients. If you feel it does affect your disorder, you can have it in moderation or better eliminate it from your diet.

Foods to be eliminated from the diet of acid reflux patients

If you are suffering from GERD, it is important that you should watch out for the type of foods that can weaken the muscle of the lower esophageal sphincter. Those containing excessive fat, peppermint and chocolate should be avoided. They have the ability to worsen the regurgitation of acid from the stomach to the esophagus. Other types of food to avoid are:

Fried food and meat. These can slow down the draining of contents in the stomach. It leads to the production of acid which regurgitate in the stomach. These foods are also difficult to digest.

Caffeinated and alcoholic beverages. These drinks accelerate acid secretion by your stomach.

Citrus fruits and beverages. These food categories can aggravate the symptoms of acid reflux due to the acid content of the fruits.

Protein-rich food. Examples of this type of food are fatty meat and beef knuckles. These are hard to digest and it can help bring much pressure in your stomach. Just like the other food categories, it can lead to acid formation.

Spicy food. It is not also advisable for you to consume foods that contain a lot of spices. This can contribute to more irritation in your stomach and esophagus. These spices include black and chili peppers, cayenne, cloves, ginger, horse radish, Hungarian paprika and mustard. If you are fond of using spices on your food, try to substitute them with non-irritating ones like basil, bay leaf, coriander, dill weed and seed, fennel seed, and marjoram. Check on other kinds of herbs that will add intensity to the taste of your food.

Other types of food to avoid. You should also limit your intake of green leafy vegetables because these are hard to digest. Fatty desserts should also be avoided because it can enhance acid regurgitation.

In spite of the probable dangerous risks of regurgitation from foods, it is still not apparent how efficient dietary alterations are in alleviating the indications of acid reflux. The only thing your physician can advice is to keep away from foods that can worsen your situation. Since you are part of the process, you have to take heed on what your doctor advises you to do. Exert some effort if you want your condition to be alleviated.
